I normally don’t believe in the old wives’ tale that ‘the darker the Mehendi, the more your husband will love you’. It’s usually considered a folklore and has no real significance. But as a bride nearly four months back, I was quite worried about how my Mehendi would turn out. I wasn’t sure whether the artist would do a good job and the simple thought of whether the colour would get darker or lighter gave me sleepless nights.

I am sure many of you have put in a lot of thought as to how to make your Mehendi look dark on your big day. Here are some tried and tested hacks for you to pick from!

Two Days Before The Function:

  • Get a manicure and pedicure two-three days before the ceremony.
  • It’s also advisable to get waxed before the function. If you wax after Mehendi, it might scrape off the upper layer of your skin and fade the colour.

  • Apply Mehendi at least two days prior to your wedding day. It gets darker over the course of 24 to 48 hours.
  • Do wash your hands before applying it. Make sure there is no oil or lotion on your hands as they usually act as barriers and minimize Mehendi absorption into your skin.
  • Wear something comfortable as you have to wait and sit for hours to get it done.

While Mehendi Is Drying Off:

  • Boil some sugar in water and let it cool down; then add a few drops of lemon juice and mix. When the Mehendi starts to dry, apply the same with a cotton ball.
  • Do not blow-dry your Mehendi as it will smudge and ruin the design.
